We were honoured when BOCONCEPT approached us to re-style its iconic IMOLA chair for charity. The theme for the 11 designers was ‘Sit less, play more’ and with no restrictions to the design we could be as creative as possible. When I first laid eyes on the chair (which was on upside down) it instantly reminded me of a boat. With this in mind, my design studio and I decided to base the chair on the ‘OWL & THE PUSSYCAT’ by Edward Lear.
Using fabrics from past and present collections we re-upholstered the chair using KINTAIL and CAWDOR from the ROSSLYN collection. To create the Owl and the Pussycat we used fabrics from the BRODIE weave collection. Other items in the boat include a runciple spoon, a slice of quince, guitar, honey pot and a £5 note. To finish the boat off we used BICTON, FAIRFIELD and CAWDOR to create the sails.
The main aim of the chair for us was to create a chair that children were able to sit in, play in and perhaps read a book in by the light.
We are thrilled with the finished chair which is now on show at BOCONCEPT’S Tottenham Court Road show room. The chair has now been auctioned with all the proceeds going to KIDS COMPANY, a charity that works with children and young people.
